しまなみサイクルオアシス 狼荘

今年１月に、しまなみ海道の大島に移住をされた自転車仲間の
ＷさんからＬＩＮＥで、自宅を「サイクルオアシス」として、
解放されたとの連絡を頂きました。
この「サイクルオアシス」、世界各地から「しまなみ海道」に
やってくるサイクリストをお迎えしたいという事で、農家民宿
・ガソリンスタンド・小売店・喫茶店等々の施設で、休憩する
事が出来るスペースを地元の方が提供していますそうです。
更に、その施設では、空気入の貸出、給水、トイレの利用等の
利用も出来るそうです。

そんな施設が在る事を、亀は知りませんでした。


で、そのサイクルオアシスの中でも、個人の自宅を開放をして
いるのは、Ｗさんだけなのだそうです。

Ｗさんは、アメリカ生まれのアメリカ人で、３０年以上前から
日本で暮らし、一度、祖国のアメリカに戻られましたが、また、
日本に戻り、しまなみ海道を自転車で走る事に夢中になって、
１年間、尾道でセカンドハウスとしてアパートを借り、自転車
でしまなみ海道を巡りながら、今の新居を建てられました。
流石にアメリカ人らしく、自宅の前には綺麗な芝生の広い庭を
作り、サイクルスタンドを置いて、まるで、お洒落なカフェの
ような佇まいです。

「しまなみサイクリングをきっかけに移住したWolfe氏が運営
する休憩所。大島の外周コース沿いにあり、サイクリング途中
の休憩にぴったり。
オーナーはしまなみ海道はもちろん、ゆめしま海道やとびしま
海道のサイクリング経験が豊富。英語と日本語で地元ならでは
の情報提供が可能。」
と紹介されています。

Ｗさんは、コーヒーとＪＡＺＺを愛するジェントルマンです。
そして、目の前に沈む夕陽がとても綺麗なロケーションです。

Today's topic is ' Shimanami Cycle Oasis, Wolfe's manor house '

I received a message on LINE from a fellow cyclist, Wolfe
san, who moved to Oshima Island on the Shimanami Kaido in
January this year, that he had registered his house as a
'Cycle Oasis'.
‘Cycle Oasis’ is a convenient spot for cyclists coming to
the Shimanami Kaido from all over the world. It provides a
space where cyclists can take a break at farmer's inns,
petrol stations, retail shops, coffee shops, etc.
Furthermore, at the facilities, airpomp can be rented, water
is supplied and toilets are available.

I didn't know such facilities existed.

Wolfe's manor house is the only one who has registered his
own home among the cycle oases.

Wolfe san is an American born in the USA and lived in Japan
for more than 30 years, returning to the USA once, but then
returning to Japan again and living in the Miura Peninsula.
He cycled the Shimanami Kaido several times and was
fascinated by its beauty. He rented an apartment in Onomichi,
the starting point of the Shimanami Kaido, for a year as a
second home,
He searched by bicycle for a place to build his home and
built his current new house. His house is an American-style
house with a large, beautifully landscaped garden in front
of his house with a cycle stand.
It looks like a stylish cafe!

The official website of Cycle Oasis describes it as follows.
'A Cycle Oasis by Wolfe, who moved to the area after cycling
the Shimanami. Located along the outer course of Oshima,
it's the perfect place to take a break during cycling.
The owner has extensive experience of cycling not only the
Shimanami Kaido but also the Yumeshima Kaido and Tobishima
Kaido. He can provide unique local information in English
and Japanese."

Wolfe san is a gentleman who loves coffee and jazz. And the
location is very beautiful with the sun setting in front of
you. If you ever cycle the Shimanami Kaido, please stop by.
