デローザで行く 日本の最西端と最南端 竹富島
さて、今日は、この西表島の上原港から一旦石垣港に戻って、
そこから船を乗り換えて竹富島へと向かいます。
竹富島は、石垣島に来たなら是非とも立ち寄りたい場所。本来
の亀のライフワークからは外れますが、石垣島に来たなら行か
なければね。
と、いう事で、最高の晴天の空の下、竹富島に到着です。
島中を歩くには大変ですが、自転車で廻るのには丁度良い広さ。
ご近所ボタのような感覚です。また、平坦な道が続いていて、
普段、自動車に乗り慣れていない人でも、自転車で疲れる事は
ありません。
そして、何よりも白砂の道と石塀と赤瓦の家々。
まだまだ美しい景色は続きます。
台風が近づきつつではありますが、空は晴天、風は穏やかです。
どこかで一休みしようとカフェに入ります。
此処で珍しい紅芋アイスを頂きました。本州では食べらない味。
まだまだ街並みは続きます。
様々な種類のハイビスカスが咲いています。
まるで東南アジアのようなガソリンスタンド。
で、家並みの次はビーチ目指して走ります。
まるでストラデビアンケです。
日本で三番目に美しいといわれる砂浜。
昔行った事があるニューカレドニアの風景のようです。
すっかりと晴天の竹富島を堪能致しました。

Today’s topic is ‘ Japan's westernmost and southernmost
islands
Last month I visited the westernmost and southernmost point
islands of Japan. With my bicycle,
The places are called the Yaeyama Islands, south-west of
Okinawa near Taiwan. Starting from Ishigaki Island, boats
depart from and arrive at many of the islands.
A typical island name is Yonaguni Island, which has Japan's
westernmost point. Hateruma Island, which has Japan's
southernmost point. Iriomote Island, the largest of the
Yaeyama Islands and rich in nature. And Taketomi Island,
with it's red tile-roofed houses surrounded by stone walls
and white sand roads.

The beautiful townscape of Taketomi Island is like something
out of a film. And there is Kondoi Beach, which is said to
be the third most beautiful sandy beach in Japan.
