エロイカジャパンでボランティア その３ コース看板撤去のお手伝い
さて、楽しかった今年の「エロイカジャパン」のイベントも
無事終了した翌日。最後のボランティアである、コース看板
と矢印ボードの撤去であります。
撤去に向かう自動車を運転するのは、「コナステーション」を
運営する会社の社長さんである大嶽さん。社長自らが運転する
自動車で、社長と一緒に看板を矢印ボードを撤去する栄誉ある
お役目を任命頂き、伊豆の山道をイベントで走ったコースとは
逆の方向で進みます。
車中、大嶽さんから、今日の新聞を見せて頂きました。
「エロイカジャパン」の記事が掲載されています。この伊豆で
もっと「エロイカジャパン」が認識され、大いに盛り上がって
いけば楽しいと思う亀でありました。
で、幾つかの看板や矢印ボードを撤去してやってきたのが此処。
霧に包まれた戸田峠での撤去作業です。
今回のコースで、皆さんが一番キツイといっていた、松崎から
此処迄の道筋で最も高い地点がこの戸田峠となるのだそうです。
そして、この標高８００メートルの地点から一気に修善寺迄を
下るのも、雨の中では、とてもキツイ下りだったそうです。
そんな皆さんが苦労したコースを逆に辿り、西伊豆バイパスを
進んで仁科峠を下った頃には雲も晴れて、青空を拝めるように
なってきました。
松崎で逆コースを走って看板と矢印ボードを外していた、別の
グループの自動車と合流して、撤去の確認をします。
そして、我がグループは再度確認の為に、合流したグループの
今来た道を進みます。
天城越えの旧天城トンネル。
長年、伊豆には来ていますが、旧天城トンネルに来るのは今回
が初めてです。
新緑が綺麗です。
こんな天気の日の「エロイカジャパン」だったら、最高だった
でしょうね。こんな風景は来年の楽しみです。
旧天城トンネルを越えて進みます。
移動の車中で、亀がこの４０年間、毎年西伊豆に来ている事や
２０年前から、松崎の棚田保全のお手伝いをしている事などを
お話していたら、実は修善寺の近くにも棚田があるんですよ。
と大嶽さんから教えて頂きました。そして、看板と矢印ボード
の撤去をするルートの近くに、その棚田が在るのでとの事で、
ご案内を頂きました。
此処は、一度はエードステーションにしようかと検討した場所
なのだそうです。
そして、ショートコースのわさび田。
今日は、看板と矢印ボードの撤去で、一昨日走ったショートの
コース以外の「エロイカジャパン」の全てのコースを辿る事が
出来ました。ボランティアならではの贅沢な余禄です。
そんな粋な計らいをして頂いた大嶽さんには、感謝感謝です。
で、午後３時に、無事看板と矢印ボードの撤去を終了する事が
出来ました。
雨ではありましたが、楽しくも中身の濃い「エロイカジャパン」
２０２３年の伊豆での最初のイベントは無事終了致しました。

Today’s topic is
‘ The most beautiful cycling event in the world ‘
I took part in a cycling event on the Izu Peninsula last
month. The name of this event is the ‘ Eloica Japan ‘.
Eloica means hero in Italian.
The event started in Italy about 20 years ago. This event
was a human-centred race. The race, which has been going
on for more than 100 years, depended on the strength of
the riders.
However, today's bicycle races are organised by sponsors
who spend a lot of money on the event.It's about winning
races with the latest equipment and information.So we ride
on old dirt roads on old bicycles, as if we were the
riders of the past.This event is not a race. Where are
your limits? This is an event where each and every
participant has to find that out for themselves.
It's the same joy that climbers experience the moment
they reach the summit of a mountain.
Put another way, that say a 'Pervert', Hentai in Japanese.
And this event, which started in Italy, allows you to
enjoy the beautiful scenery and delicious local cuisine
of the Siena region of Italy. It also has the spirit of
valuing the good things of the past, which are being lost
in modern times.
This spirit has led to it being described as the most
beautiful cycling event in the world.
And it’s the ‘ Eloica Japan ‘ that has taken over the
spirit of the event in Japan. This year, the’ Eloika Japan’
event was held in a new location on the Izu Peninsula
instead of Kusatsu. And it’s a new structure of operation.
I was born in Ito City on the Izu Peninsula and visit the
Izu Peninsula every year without fail. The leader of the
new organisation, Mr Eguchi, is an acquaintance of mine,
so I assisted him in organising the event so that it would
be a success in the new location.
I helped with the following tasks: Bagging up entry sheets
and guidebooks, Setting up aid stations and reception ,
Removing course signage.On the day of the event, the
weather was not favourable, but everyone who took part
had a great time.
Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the
‘Eloica Japan’. I’m looking forward to next year.
