ランドナーで行く 九州縦断 その２ 八代-天草
今日は、八代から宇城迄一旦戻り、島原に向かいます。
有明海と八代海沿いを走り、島原の宿で美味しい魚料理を頂こう
との魂胆です。
昨日、宿泊したホテルの近くの八代城跡から出発します。
ホテルの近くにあった、クマモンの大きな像。
今日は、昨日通った宇城迄戻り、島原に向かうので、昨日通った
国道３号線ではなく、住宅街の中を走る違う道を進みます。
自転車に乗った中学生が登校して行きます。適当に蛇行するその
道は、昔からの道だったのでしょう。
暫く走ると広い道に出て、県道３３８号線を進みます。この道、
信号が無いせいか、ひっきりなしに自動車が走ります。
道幅が狭いので、こちらも緊張して走ります。
走っていると、幾つも橋を渡ります。昨日走った国道３号線では、
橋を渡った記憶がありません。不思議です。
此処も有明海を同じく、干満の差が大きいようです。
新幹線の線路が見えます。
新幹線の線路を潜り、橋を渡った先の交差点を左に曲がり、天草
を目指します。
不知火の海。
緩やかなアップダウンは多少あるものの、全体的には、平坦な海
沿いの道を進みます。
昨日の熊本豪雨で、海に流れ出た流木なのでしょうか？
ヨットハーバーが在ります.。
ＪＲ天草三角線の線路が現れ、三角の町へと到着します。
栄螺みたい。
暫く走ると、最初の橋が現れます。
橋を渡ります。橋の高さは約５０メートル。高所恐怖症の亀には
とっても怖い橋であります。
橋の下には釣り船。
橋を渡り、島の反対側、有明海側に出ます。
そして、道の端に「天草四郎」の教会跡という看板がありました。
天草四郎はこの辺りで生まれ、キリスト教の信者となって、この
辺りに教会を建てたのだそう。そして、有明海を挟んだ対岸側の
原城に立て籠もったのだそう。
天草四郎が生まれたのも、この辺りなのだそう。
ちなみに、此処、天草市ではありません。
ちょっと複雑な天草四郎です。
そして、その生誕地近くに道の駅と天草四郎記念館が在りました。
予定より早く天草に着きそうなので、この天草四郎記念館に立ち
寄ります。
で、適当に時間を過ごし、天草目指して進みます。
段々とアップダウンは増えてきます。
でも、１０％以上の坂道は無く、高さも５０メートル以上は無い
短い坂道なので、息がゼイゼイする事はありません。
ふたつめの橋。
海辺には広い池のような施設が沢山在り、水車で水をかき混ぜて
います。車海老の養殖のようです。
そして、みっつ目の橋。
遠く九州の山並みが見えます。
矢継ぎ早やによっつ目。
そして、いつつ目の橋。
全て合わせて、天草五橋というんだそうです。
ザ・有明海。
暫く、海岸沿いの起伏のある道を走ると街が見えてきました。
天草の街です。

This is a continuation of my cycling through Kyushu.
I headed from Yatsushiro City to the Amakusa Peninsula.
I returned a little from there and headed for. I saw
the "Shiranui no Umi" on the left and proceeded. The
name "Shiranui no Umi" was born from the legend that
many fires lit the sea at night. The meaning of "Shira-
nui"
it's many fires we don't know. A similar events in the
west,in English, which is called "St. Elmo's Fire".
By the way, speaking of Amakusa, I learned about Shiro
Amakusa. He was born on the Amakusa Peninsula. Shiro
Amakusa is a Christian born in the 17th century.
In The Edo period,The lord changed and the farmers in
this region suffered heavy taxes. And the farmers rebe-
lled against the new lord. The farmers were all devout
Christians,
They fought without fear of death because they believed
that they could go to heaven if they died, so they went
on to win the battle.The lord, who was at a disadvanta-
ge, asked the shogunate for support, and the samurai
warriors from all over the country took part in the
battle.
And the farmers lost to the battle and many of them
were killed in the months to come.
In that battle, Shiro Amakusa became the leader of the
farmers.
This triggered Christianity to be banned as a religion
because Christian were not afraid of death against the
Shogunate.
By the way, Amakusa Shiro was acturally born in Kamiam-
akusa City on the Amakusa Peninsula. It's a city next
to Amakusa City, He was not born Amakusa City.
The battle took place on the Shimabara Peninsula, which
is the next peninsula facing the Amakusa Peninsula.
The Amakusa Peninsula, in Kumamoto Prefecture, while
the Shimabara Peninsula is in Nagasaki Prefecture.
Furthermore, Shiro Amakusa's real name was Shiro Masuda.
